The Shawi Food Project

A Call to Action: Nourishing Shawi Children and Protecting the Amazon

The Shawi Food Project

The destruction of the Amazon Rainforest is reaching a critical point. Illegal loggers, drug traffickers, and invaders are relentlessly threatening Indigenous territories, cutting down ancient trees, and polluting rivers with toxic chemicals. These actions are not only devastating the environment but also stripping Indigenous communities, like the Shawi, of their vital resources—animal protein, native vegetables, and tropical fruits.

The Harsh Reality for Shawi Children:

  • Many children under 11 years old are suffering from severe malnutrition.

  • Their diets often consist of masato (a fermented yuca drink) and green plantains, lacking essential proteins, vitamins, and minerals.

  • Without access to nutritious food, their health and futures are at risk.

Our Commitment: Quality Food for Shawi Children

We are working tirelessly to provide sustainable solutions for the Shawi community. Our initiatives include:

  • School Organic Gardens: Planting nutrient-rich vegetables to ensure children have access to fresh, healthy food.

  • Chicken Raising Projects: Supporting mothers to raise chickens, providing a reliable source of animal protein.

  • Daily School Meals: Preparing nutritious meals for children every day at school.

How You Can Help:

Your support can make a life-changing difference. Here’s what your contribution can achieve:

  • USD 1,500 funds a small school organic garden, including:

    • Organic vegetable seeds and humus to nourish the soil.

    • Per diem for a teacher to oversee the project.

    • Raising 30 chickens to provide protein for the children.

Why This Matters:

By supporting these projects, you are not only helping to feed hungry children but also empowering Indigenous communities to protect their land, preserve their traditions, and resist the forces destroying their home.
